The Most Sold Electric Car... | Nissan LEAF

The Nissan leaf is a Japanese design. The model adopts the hatchback model borrowed from its second generation, with an improved appearance coupled with a digital display cabin. There are two versions of the five-seat electric vehicle. One is the Leaf plus, and the other is the Leaf.
The battery package gives it, its outstanding acceleration and gives it a cruising range of between 149 and 226 miles. The base leaf's battery pack is 40kWh, and its single electric motor has a 147hp and 187 lb-ft of torque. The EPA driving range is estimated at 149 miles. The Leaf plus has a 214 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque efficient for 0-60 mph for less than 7seconds and perfect for a mile range of between 215 and 226 miles. But this is dependent on the tire trim level.
The Leaf has a good NHTSA crash test scores, light steering and an automatic emergency brake. The Leaf steering wheel has not been fitted with a telescope, but seat comfort is guaranteed for four people, as plenty of space is available for the head and the leg area. But remember, the Leaf can accommodate up to five people.
The expensive models of the Nissan Leaf have ProPilot driver-assistance system that can start, steer and stop the car. The Leaf has an 8-inch touchscreen that is compatible with both android auto and Apple CarPlay. It also has cloth upholstery and 16-inch wheels. The Leaf SV Plus has adaptive cruise control, keyless entry, navigation, quick charging and wheels measuring 17inches. Some of the provided options include an upgrade of the headlights and a cold weather package (automatic climate control) and its semiautonomous.
It not easy to identify the Nissan leaf as a hybrid and electric vehicle just from looking at it but the zero-emissions mark is a clue that its an electric vehicle.
The Nissan leaf is a rear-wheel-drive model, and you can not get any Leaf that is four-wheel drive.
If all you ever wanted is a green car, then the Nissan leaf is your best choice as the electric vehicle it's the greenest vehicle that runs solely on electricity. The Leaf charging time varies, and then it can be charged on 120 volts or 240 volts. According to Nissan, the Leaf and Leaf Plus battery pack can be recharged after seven hours. The S models have the option of a fast-charging DC connection. Standard level charging is providing for all Plus trims, SV, and SL trims.

Lucid Motors BOLD ATTEMPT To Beat Tesla in 2021

Since coming to dominate the electric vehicle marketplace, a number of competitors to Tesla have emerged. One of these major competitors is the company known as Lucid Motors. Who are they?

Lucid Motors Background
Founded in 2007 under the name Atieva, Lucid Motors does not actually have an electric car for sale yet! In 2020 they made waves, however, when they announced the production of a new car known as the Lucid Air Dream and prototypes being made for an electric SUV. Before planning to enter the EV market, Lucid originally focused on building electric vehicle batteries and powertrains for other companies that now will be their competitors. This plan to develop EV’s themselves was announced in 2016 when the name change from Atieva to Lucid Motors occurred. As recently as In February 2021, Lucid Motors announced a deal valued at $11.75 billion to merge with Churchill Capital Corp IV and shared how it had the intention to produce its Project Gravity SUV by 2023, then offer a competitor to Tesla's Model 3 by 2024 or 2025. Lucid Motors has big plans, but how will they actually go about making all these vehicles?

The Casa Grande, Arizona Factory
In November of 2016, Lucid Motors bought land for the construction of a factory in Casa Grande, Arizona. Ground was broken in 2017 and it is now fully functional. It cost about 700 million to build and in February of this year, CNBC was allowed to take a peek into the factory. Lucid Motor’s CEO, Peter Rawlinson, gave CNBC a tour. The tour involved showing-off the preproduction process for upcoming Lucid vehicles. It was discussed how the cars were basically, “A computer on wheels,” as they were so high-tech. Rawlinson admitted everything was currently in, “Phase 1,” which is focused on prouducing Lucid’s first car, with phase 2 being the Gravity SUV, and further theoretical phases doubling the size of the factory to allow the production of high-volume cards to compete with the upcoming Tesla models that will be lower-cost to appeal to a more general market. A factory with all the phases complete would be 5 million square feet, but right now Lucid Motors needs to focus on getting its first vehicle, the Lucid Air Dream to market. With not even a single product out yet, the big question becomes if Lucid can truly compete with Tesla?

Can Lucid Compete With Tesla?
Lucid Motors knows a lot about electric vehicles, that cannot be debated. Since their founding as Atieva, they have worked to create powerful and effective batteries for electric vehicles that have served other companies well. There is more to an electric car than its battery, however. Lucid Motors needs to have designed an entire car from basically the ground-up and created an operating system that can compete with Tesla’s version in the marketplace. To Lucid’s credit, they are starting with a focus on the luxury market, emphasizing their car is for those who don’t flinch at a higher price tag. This is basically how Tesla got its start before beginning to focus on more of a mass-market. Lucid Motors is launching with a luxury focus, then creating an electric SUV as that market has become immensely popular. Then, and only then, do they want to put funds towards trying to compete with Tesla’s more immediate focus, a mass-market that wants a less-expensive electric vehicle option. This is smart but carries risks too. After all, Tesla started-out in the luxury market and has perfected its expertise in it. Tesla knows luxury vehicles. It makes the cars, the software, the batteries, and you can go buy a Tesla right now and see the proof driving-by that they’re the leader in this field. Lucid Motors doesn’t have a car for sale right now. They have an impressive factory, they have a number of big deals in place, and they clearly know batteries, but can they compete with Tesla? We don’t know, because we don’t have any proof to show that yes, they can, or no, they can’t. Right now everything is theoretical until the cars roll off the line and can be purchased by consumers.

Lucid Motors--Immense Potential and Even Greater Risk
Lucid Motors is a bit like Tesla in its early days--full of potential but unproven. Tesla has since its creation shown it knows what it is doing when it comes to impressive electric vehicles. Lucid Motors has not yet been able to prove if it can back-up its big claims. Based on what Lucid has shown to the general public and entities such as CNBC, they clearly have big plans. Should these plans come to fruition and Lucid Motors’ first car is a big success, they will be able to continue building-out their factory and building-up more cars and SUVs. However, should Lucid Motors create a subpar vehicle that fails in the marketplace, then all their planning will be for naught as they may end-up losing any financial backing. Lucid Motors has the opportunity to succeed but carries a very real risk of failure as well.

In mid-2020, Tesla Inc. announced a plan to build a brand new factory in Austin, Texas. Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, revealed in an annual shareholder meeting in October that the $1 billion, 4 million, 5 million-square-foot plant, should finish construction by the fourth quarter of this year. However, local presentations by Tesla representatives revealed May 1, 2021, as the “first substantial completion date”—the time at which construction will be complete enough to sustain some level of operations, according to the American Institute of Architect standards. Beforehand, Tesla referred to the factory as the Cybertruck Gigafactory because it had plans to generate the electric pickup truck there.

The Chinese automaker Xpeng was founded in 2014 and has caused quite a stir recently. Not only because the newly released P7 is said to be incredibly cheap and powerful, but also because the autopilot led to a legal dispute between Tesla and Xpeng. But more on that at the end of the video.

Let's start with the design of the P7. The elegant car is 4 meters 80 long, 1 meter 90 wide, and 145 cm tall with a wheelbase of 3 meters. The car has an empty weight of 1865 kg-1890 kg, depending on which variant you choose. A total of 5 seats are installed in the car, made of chamois leather and textiles in the cheaper version and Nappa leather in the two newer versions. The interior itself is available in orange for the standard variant and in black, beige or red for the smart and premium variants. The cockpit of the car is incredibly classy.

There is an Xmart OS In-car Intelligent System with a 15-inch touchscreen, 4G, 128Gb and many other features. The load space of the car is 440 L and thus provides plenty of storage space. Outside, the car has frameless doors and a hidden electric door handle. The car also has intelligent exterior lighting and LED headlights with steering auxiliary lighting. The roof is made of panoramic glass and makes the car look particularly elegant and high-quality.

The battery of the P7 has an output of 80.87 KW and should therefore achieve a range of over 700 km. However, a somewhat older test procedure was used to determine the range and tested under optimal conditions. For comparison, Tesla's competitor model, the Model S, has a range of around 600 km. The P7's battery should also be charged from 30 to 80% within 30 minutes and provide electricity for a further 120 kilometres of driving in just ten minutes.

The car has an electric motor each on the front and rear axles and thus provides 316KW and a proud 430 PS. Alternatively, customers can only access the single-engine and rear-wheel-drive variants while driving, which still have 196 kW / 266 hp.

Of course, the P7 also has an autonomous driving system. Countless sensors and cameras support this. For example, the car's premium version has 14 cameras, 14 ultrasonic wave sensors, and 5 millimetres wave radar. However, Elon Musk claimed that Xpeng had taken over Tesla's lidar system and copied some of its source code content. The whole thing even went so far that Tesla is said to have taken legal action against Xpeng. Elon Musk posted the following tweet on Twitter.

In terms of price, the e-sedan will be sold for 35,500 to 55,000 dollars in the future. All in all, the price of the car is thus far below that of the competition from Tesla and still offers some interesting features and impressive performance.

NASA Finally Reveals NEW Telescope After James Webb That Changes Everything!

A few weeks ago, the whole world held their breath as the groundbreaking James Webb
Space Telescope, JWST, finally launched from French Guiana. Everything had to be
perfect, or the biggest telescope ever made by humans would fail at the cost of billions
of dollars and decades of sweat! Fortunately, the launch went well! However, the nail-
biting has not ended because the JWST will still carry out potentially risky maneuvers
that could spell disaster for the space telescope! This risk, however, is not stopping the
National Aeronautics and Space Administration Agency from working on the next
massive space telescopes that will shape astronomy in the next decade! Join us as we
dive into how NASA finally reveals four new massive space telescopes after the James
Webb Space Telescope!
Building and launching space telescopes is not a small feat! Take, for example, the
recently launched James Webb Space Telescope. The JWST was scheduled to launch
in 2007 at a budget of $1 billion, with work starting in 1996. However, with many
technical difficulties surfacing, the budget ballooned, and the final cost now sits close to
$10 billion!
Yet, all that billions of dollars could have gone to waste if the telescope was subject to
too much vibration during takeoff! The space telescope had to be designed to fold to fit
into the fairing of the launch rocket and then unfurl on its way to its final destination!
That is one thing about designing these giant space telescopes! You have to develop
with the available launch vehicle in mind because your telescope has to fit on the
rocket! The folding approach adopted by the JWST designers was necessary but also
very risky because the components of the 6.5-meter wide telescope had to be precisely
positioned! You can't even send an astronaut to the JWST for any repair like you could
do with the legendary Hubble Telescope, so you have just a chance to get everything
Another potential source of disaster is the sun shades. They are necessary to keep the
JWST cold enough for the infrared it depends on to function without interference. These
shades are in five layers, made from special materials, and each has to be precisely
positioned for the telescope to work! With all these complexities, the JWST is not
expected to last more than ten years when the fuel on board would have run out!
However, the JWST is mighty! In fact, it is between 10 and 100 times more sensitive
than the Hubble! According to NASA, the JWST can pick up infrared emissions from a
bumblebee flying on the moon!
But why do we put space telescopes in space? Is it really worth it? We put telescopes in
orbit around the Earth or farther out into space to get a clearer view of the Universe.
These telescopes are of different types. Some are used to study a unique object like the
Sun. Others are used to study the different kinds of light given off by objects in space.
You could have X-ray and gamma-ray telescopes that explore the hottest and most
explosive objects in space. You could use Infrared telescopes like the JWST, to study
the places where stars are born and can look into the centers of galaxies.
Also, optical telescopes study the visible light from space, and ultraviolet telescopes
study scorching stars. We could have positioned these telescopes on Earth and
minimized risks and costs, but many of these types of light given off by these celestial
bodies are blocked by our atmosphere!
This is why, despite that the fate of the JWST is not known yet, and the first pictures
from it could be months away, NASA is already looking at the successors to the
telescopes! The space agency has revealed four different telescopes that will launch in
the 2030s and beyond! Like the JWST, they bring more capabilities to scientists that
study the Universe!
The first space telescope is the HabEx or Habitable Exoplanet Observatory! What is the
purpose of HabEx? HabEx is a concept for a mission to image planetary systems
around Sun-like stars directly. HabEx will be sensitive to all types of planets, but its
primary goal is to image Earth-like exoplanets and characterize their atmospheric
content directly. This is the first time we are attempting this. Using the spectra
measurement of these planets, HabEx will search for signatures of habitability such as
water and be sensitive to gases in the atmosphere possibility indicative of biological
activity, such as oxygen or ozone. So, yes, HabEx will search for evidence of life in
outer space.

Ever since Elon Musk unveiled the Cybertruck there have been many rumors about what to expect from it and when to expect it; let’s discuss what we should expect when we get a final update before it's possibly imminent release from Tesla.

It turns out the Cyberruck may be in production as soon as June of this year! Tesla has been preparing its pilot production line at its factory in Giga, Texas, and is training its human staff to work with the robotic elements. That means we could see Cybertrucks for sale before 2022! There is still a lot that isn’t known about the Cybertruck, however, but a lot has leaked out and will most likely be confirmed by a final update from Musk and Tesla sometime before the Cybertruck is officially, “On the market,” for consumers.

The Cybertruck was first unveiled in 2019 and garnered a wide range of responses. Some were fascinated by its unique look and others were concerned if it would be effective as a pick-up. Since it was first seen there have been changes made to the Cybertruck based on information that has emerged officially from Tesla as well as assorted leaks.

One thing that was changed is the Cybertruck had its size altered from being absolutely huge to a bit more accessible for houses that may have smaller garages. It seems it was shrunk six inches shorter and an inch narrower. It’s nothing too big, but enough to help make it a bit more trim and tight. This redesign isn’t just for garages though. Europe is an important market and those European streets and roadways can be tight in certain cities. A slightly more compact Cybertruck makes the difference between cruising through those old European cities and possibly getting stuck in an alley! Don’t take this to mean the Cybertruck will be, “Small,” by any means. It will still be an impressive and sizeable machine capable of carrying big loads as it is at its heart a pickup truck, albeit a highly advanced and technologically superior one!

The Cybertruck wasn’t unveiled with a midgate but had been said to be an idea, “Worth considering,” by Musk as long as it didn’t change the truck’s styling too much. A midgate is a panel at the cab of a truck that can be folded to make more space but can bring with it security concerns. To address this Musk has actually said he’s thought about adding a, “Zapper,” to a truck. Whether this, “Zapper,” would outright be a taser that shocks anyone who tries to steal a Cybertruck or something a little less shocking would remain to be seen. This may be more of a theoretical feature as opposed to something actually implemented, however.

One interesting claim to recently emerge is that the Cybertruck may itself have no door handles. Such a statement would seem like a weird rumor not worth believing except Musk himself tweeted in response to someone begging for a tease of, “Cybertruck stuff,” the sentence, “There will be no handles.” When the prototype was unveiled in 2019 it had handles similar to the original Model S. There were handles that stayed flush to the car but revealed themselves when a key was sensed or the vehicle was unlocked. How would a Cybertruck work that lacks handles, however? Perhaps the car could open and close itself to those outside of the car, or maybe it will have handles inside for easy exit but nothing outside and do an auto-open feature in response to keys or some kind of app. Other than Musk’s both extremely revealing and highly cryptic tweet we can only excitedly speculate what a handle-free Cybertruck might mean and could look like once it is officially for sale.

The Cybertruck may have had certain elements redesigned, but a number of advertised features remain. It has been discussed how planned features for the Cybertruck include options for 400 to 500 miles of range, dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain with dynamic suspension, and the proudly touted 300,00 pounds of towing capacity as well as the Cybertruck potentially being bulletproof to small-arms fire AKA a handgun. The payload capacity for all the Cybertruck models is expected to be 3,500 pounds and the Cybertruck will seat six with a front area that includes a folding middle seat which can function as a center console when lowered. The bed will be 6.5 feet and there will be 100 cubic feet of lockable storage space. As it will be electric there will chargers that allow it to be charged quite rapidly at a rate of 250 kilowatts.

The World’s Most Expensive Electric Car | Aspark Owl

In 2017, the Japanese company Aspark presented the first design sketches for the planned super sports car called Aspark Owl. Virgin Orbit's LauncherOne rocket reached orbit on its second flight on Jan. 17, demonstrating the air-launch system's performance after years of development.
The company's Boeing 747 aircraft, called Cosmic Girl, took off from the Mojave Air and Space Port in California at 1:38 p.m. Eastern with the LauncherOne rocket attached. The plane flew out over the Pacific just off the Southern California coast and released the rocket at about 2:39 p.m. Eastern.
The rocket ignited its NewtonThree first stage engine for three minutes, followed by stage separation and ignition of the NewtonFour engine in the rocket's second stage for nearly six minutes. After a 46-minute coast, the rocket reignited the NewtonFour for a five-second burn, followed by payload deployment in an approximately 500-kilometer orbit. However, Virgin Orbit took more than an hour to confirm those final steps.

Elon Musk has been very vocal about wanting to get humans to Mars with his Starship, but Russia has made it clear they have plans to try and get there first with their own spaceship--a nuclear-powered one.

Why Does Russia Want to Get to Mars
Why Russia has begun promoting its efforts to get a base on the Moon or get humans to Mars in recent years doesn’t have an exact answer. It could be that seeing an American company such as SpaceX designing and preparing impressive rockets has brought back memories of the space race for Russia. There may be a financial motivation as having the technology to go to Mars would be quite impressive and result in lots of monetary backing from others. Perhaps it is just pride as Russia still remembers how the Soviet Union got beat to the Moon by America and having a private American company get to Mars first would be another metaphorical slap in the face. Whatever the reason, Russia wants to get to Mars, and has plans to use different technology to power its rockets than has ever been seen before. They want to use nuclear power.

Differences in Power
SpaceX rockets do not use nuclear power, in fact, no current rockets do. SpaceX rockets actually use methane with oxygen mixed-in as their propellant. Many rockets before SpaceX used either a kerosene blend--and SpaceX actually used kerosene as well up until methane rockets were developed in 2007. Some spaceships have used hydrogen in the past as well. Methane rockets have served SpaceX well and seem to be the best fuel option for the future of spaceflight for the company. It also has been useful because it can be used to refuel ships in space. Roughly half of all the energy expended traveling to anywhere in the solar system such as the Moon or Mars is spent just getting into the orbit of Earth. If you can refuel a SpaceX starship while it is in orbit then it can theoretically go anywhere in the Solar System if you give it enough time. Why would a Russian spaceship use nuclear power then?

Well, Russia has claimed nuclear rockets have been in the works since 2009 and supposedly could operate at such a speed they’d get humans to Mars in a matter of weeks than months. The idea is not using carbon-based fuel would result in a faster and cleaner rocket. Nuclear rockets have been kicked around as an idea for more than half a century with the idea that the massive energy generated by a nuclear bomb could be put toward a peaceful use such as launching a rocket at mind-blowing speed. Nuclear thermal rockets have had designs drawn up and theories made, but they’ve not actually been made. Now, rockets with thermonuclear bombs have been made by the thousands and were the main focal point of the Cold War between America and the then Soviet Union. Many intercontinental rockets were produced with nuclear payloads that could have ended life on Earth a hundred times over, but those were nuclear payloads, not rockest that were themselves powered by nuclear energy in a manner without a focus on destroying Earth. While nuclear-powered rockets were always considered, Russia revisiting them has a bit of an, “Everything old is new again,” feeling to it. Now, if Russia could get such a thing to work, safely, that would be quite impressive. Nuclear energy has a history that is questionable at best, however.

The Risks of Nuclear Energy
Despite how it was promoted as clean and safe energy, Nuclear power is arguably one of the most dangerous kinds around. If an oil rig explodes it pollutes the ocean for years, if a nuclear plant has an issue, however, it’ll be centuries before the area is safe to be lived in again. One only needs to look at famous catastrophes such as Russia’s own Chernobyl reactor or what happened in Japan’s Fukushima for living proof of the risks that nuclear energy can bring. Now, imagine a nuclear-powered rocket launching from Earth and what would happen if something went wrong. When a SpaceX rocket crashes it leaves some debris, a nuclear rocket smashing to pieces would render the accident location and miles or kilometers around it totally uninhabitable. Plus, suppose a nuclear-powered rocket were to successfully launch but then suffer an issue that causes it to fall from the sky before achieving orbit and crash back into another part of Earth? The entire planet would be at risk of having a nuclear crater left from such an accident. A nuclear-powered rocket malfunctioning and explosively crashing into New York City would be a tragedy of unimaginable proportions, after all.

Elon Musk and SpaceX have been incredibly successful, so it makes sense there would be those trying to figure out a so-called, “Formula,” to his success so they could achieve it too--China has arguably been trying to do just that!

A Quick Refresher on Musk and SpaceX
Before we go into why someone would want to copy SpaceX and Elon Musk, it should briefly be pointed out why they are successful enough to warrant being copied. First of all, you can’t really talk about SpaceX without discussing Musk as they are so intertwined. Musk founded SpaceX in 2002 with the then-outlandish sounding idea to get humans back into space with reusable rockets, then eventually return us to the Moon before making a trip to Mars and even possibly colonizing the red planet. Now in 2021 with the fact that SpaceX has made incredible strides in rocket technology, it seems a lot more possible we could soon have a base on the moon and even get to Mars in the next decade. SpaceX has been at the forefront of cutting-edge technology with its reusable Superheavy rockets that land themselves after assisting Starships with getting into orbit, launching thousands of satellites into orbit as well for the Worldwide internet idea Starlink, and basically has taken over for NASA in America when it comes to the actual production and launch of rockets. SpaceX and Musk have had incredible success, and other people and countries have taken note. Countries like China.

A Complicated Relationship
Musk has had an extremely complicated relationship with China. It has at times been incredibly friendly and complimentary and at other points been downright combative. Back in July of 2020 Musk observed that, “China rocks,” and stated America was, “Full of entitlement,” when he described how in his opinion China was full of dedicated and hardworking people compared to how Americans could at times be--in his mind--lazy. Musk has also worked extensively with China when it comes to another of his companies--Tesla. Tesla is known for its creation and manufacturing of electric vehicles and in 2019 Chinese government officials helped Tesla qualify for loans worth around $1.6 billion to construct and begin manufacturing vehicles at the company’s new and no-yet-proven Shanghai factory.

This all makes Musk and China sound like they get along great, but in November of 2020 things became quite rocky when Musk accused a rival Chinese company known as Xpeng of, “Stealing,” source codes for Tesla’s electric vehicles and Apple’s source code for its AR technology, LIDAR. Musk basically felt that Xpeng was trying to steal from Tesla so that it could copy their technology. There was no outright proof of any theft, but Musk having said it happened got many people talking and greatly upset China. with China being a Communist regime, the government is heavily involved in all corporations and production, including a company like Xpeng. In other words, when Musk accused Xpeng of stealing from him and Apple, he essentially accused China itself by proxy.

After Musk’s accusations towards Xpeng things got pretty chilly between him and China. However, as of March 2021, it seems everyone may be warming up to each other again. In a recent interview with China Central Television--which is owned by the Chinese government--Musk said how in the long run the nation would be his, “Biggest market,” for Tesla. Musk stated he saw China becoming the biggest economy in the world over the next 10 years in that interview as well. When he wasn’t doing interviews he spoke with government officials during a trip to China in late March where he addressed everything from helping China reduce its carbon blueprint to assuring the government the cameras on Tesla cars used for actions such as backing-up would never be used for spying or corporate espionage.

Musk seems to be on good terms with China again as he is not only getting along with the Chinese government but is a major celebrity among Chinese citizens too! He has around 1.7 million followers on Weibo, a major Chinese social media platform, and it often talked about by Chinese citizens as an iconic and impressive figure. Both citizens and government officials have said Musk deserves a residential green card and be offered citizenship in China due to all he has done for the country. Clearly from the great times and moments of animosity it is clear Musk’s relationship with China is complicated! It isn’t a one-sided relationship, however, as China has arguably been wanting to learn from the success of Musk and SpaceX, with some even saying the country wants to copy him!

To make space travel less expensive and fast, SpaceX plans to reuse its Starship, meaning the upper stage will return to earth after each mission and take off again. However, all this plan depends on a collection of black hexagonal tiles that will prevent the Starship from overheating on its re-entry into the earth. SpaceX has been making them in a secret facility it calls the Bakery!

When the Starship is finished, it will be insanely powerful and massive. It will cover millions of miles in space as it fulfills Musk’s dream of colonizing Mars by transporting both passengers and cargo to the planet.
Musk even wants the Starship to go farther to one of the moons of Jupiter after conquering the Red Planet.
While doing this, the Starship will reenter the earth’s atmosphere to undertake more missions. There is one problem with the entry that can spell disaster for the Starship: the tremendous amount of heat generated.
If not properly insulated from this heat, the Starship will be damaged, and it will not be reusable, shattering Musk’s dream.
However, SpaceX has come up with the idea of sticking black hexagonal tiles on the side of the Starship that is exposed to heat. The tiles will as a heat shield and deflect the heat, protecting the Starship.
For some years, SpaceX has been operating a facility called the Bakery, where it produces and tests the black hexagonal ceramic tiles that will cover a side of the Starship. This is quite out of character for a company that puts everything about its designs and manufacturing out there in the open. For example, Elon Musk, the CEO, has already explained how the lower stage of the Starship will be caught mid-air and even stating where his company got the inspiration for the mechanism.
So you might be surprised SpaceX is keeping hush-hush over its Bakery location and wonder why. However, SpaceX’s well-kept secret location has come into the open thanks to some intelligent spotters that have applied some ingenuity.
The ceramic tile-making Bakery has been located in Cape Canaveral in Florida all this while, and we know this courtesy of some forum posts.
The trail starts when a forum user spotted some SpaceX vehicles at a particular address and asked what the facility was used for. The address is 8550 Astronaut Boulevard, in Cape Canaveral.
Another forum quickly pointed out it was an old NASA NSLD Shuttle building but added it could be anything, as it contains machine shops, acoustic and vibration test facilities, and office space.
But we get more clarification from another use that adds a crucial piece of info that the facility is called “Starship Tile Facility” and invited readers to guess what SpaceX was doing there.
There were some good jokes about Musk and his flamethrowers, which we will ignore and go to the next clue in our unraveling mission.
Another forum member points out that since SpaceX has taken over the facility, the City Board has modified the zoning permits to develop up to 90,000 square feet of climate-controlled self-storage in the existing 161,000 square foot building.
SpaceX has also been granted permission for extensive AC modifications.
And, pay attention to this next one; the hazardous waste registration for the building mentions corrosive and ignitable materials.
The real scoop came when the same user posted an official inspection report in the thread and blew open what SpaceX has kept quiet.
The Cape Canaveral Bakery employs about 20 people and has been in operation since 2019. It is run 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with three different shifts. We even see who SpaceX’s landlord is, Cape Canaveral Joint Venture.
From the report, all doubts about the function of the building are shot down as it states clearly that it is used to manufacture heat shield tiles for SpaceX.

SpaceX’s Starship will transport people to mars through space where there is no gravity. How will SpaceX generate artificial gravity on the Starship?

Gravity is the force that allows you walk from your house to the store without floating away into space.
It is the effect of the earth pulling you towards it.
While gravity basically holds everything down, it is easy to take it for granted as it is very natural. The story is different when you step into space as there is no gravity out there.
Astronauts are a different breed since their real ‘place of work’ lacks gravity. When in space, they have a feeling of being wieightless, called zero gravity. This expliains the floating videos of astronauts you must have seen floating around. This is serious stuff as astronauts spend a great deal of time practicing to adjust to zero gravity before leaving the earth.
At the center of Elon Musk’s plans for humans to become a multi-planetary species is the Starship. However, as huge and versatile the spacecraft is, it can’t eacape the annoying presence of zero-gravity. With travelers to mars expected to spend up to nine months en route, SpaceX has to find a way to artificially introduce gravity in the space vehicle.
What happens if SpaceX decides to forgo gravity and sends the Starship on its journey to mars anyway? That sounds like sending people to Mars on the first trip would be necessary or smarter. But SpaceX is still porbably 50-100 years away from artificial Gravity
That simply means the passengers and their stuff will float around for about 9 months, the duration of the trip. Your pen will be suspended in air alongside your sleeping mattress, for example.
While that may sound not so bad on even exciting based on Youtube videos of astronauts in space, it quickly gets annoying or boring when you need a drink. Zero gravity means the water wont stay in your cup but will break into droplets and float away from you and potential cause damage. Imagine the horror of short circuiting the wiring of the Starship because you want a sip of water!

This part is not optimal. At such a mission things like "annoying or boring" play not role. Also, the chance of having a short circuiting is 0%. This never happens. This sentence sounds not professional.
Think of that floating pen of yours again. What if it gets into the eye of a fellow passenger?

That is no risk at all! A droplet of water is nothing. Makes no sense to mention that as a reason to build a entire artificial gravity starship. There are much more significant reasons.
But more importantly, prolonged zero gravity affects the muscles. They lose strength as they are not used as much. Even constant workout may not be enough to counteract the effect on your muscle. So you arrive on mars, all proud of your achievement but you can’t even lift an arm to disembark?
This is not the reality.. Astronauts get trained over years in order to keep their muscles and to prepare on such trips. It will not happen that they arrive on mars and lost all their muscle power.
SpaceX had better put on some artificial gravity in that Starship, just like you have to put some serious security on your internet habits.

Tesla’s Cybertruck was first revealed in November of 2019 and as more and more has been revealed it looks like it might be the best truck ever made. What kind of engineering genius has gone into the Cybertruck to make it so impressive?

Why the Cybetruck Could Be the Best Truck Ever Made
Tesla’s Cybertruck will soon be on the market and looks simply amazing. Tesla has made a number of amazing vehicles but had yet to fully tackle the truck market until we met the Cybertruck during its unveiling in late 2019. The Cybertruck is no ordinary pick-up truck, however. A major notable element is how it’s fully electric, and drivers should be able to expect a range of 240 miles on a fully charged battery. Tesla has stated how they continue to research advances in the battery power of their vehicles, so it is possible future iterations of the Cybertruck could go even further in distance without buyers having to pay anything extra for such awesome capabilities.

The Cybertruck is also built for longevity, unlike some competitors’ vehicles. With other cars often only lasting a decade or less before they conk-out or cost so much to maintain that people trade them in, the Cybertruck is a breath of fresh air with it officially stated it should last 750,000 miles, and more likely close to a million miles for its overall lifespan. Even if you drove it 40,000 miles a year--quite a lot--a Cybertruck would last a good 20 years with little issues. Thanks to top-of-the-line quality parts used for its engine, body, and everything else, a Cybertruck should last a long time. After all, Tesla is a name known for quality when it comes to their vehicles.

With pickup trucks, a big focus is being able to haul a lot, use tools, and go offroad. Well, the Cybertruck easily does both! Its spacious 6.5-feet bed has a payload capacity of 3,500 pounds and a very useful feature where every Cybertruck will have an adaptive air suspension system. This means if you have air-compressed tools you could actually power them off of your truck. With that massive bed and the way to power tools that is some engineering genius right there, and the Cybertruck may look sleek and futuristic, but it can get down in the dirt and mud too. Thanks to its adaptive air expansion it has a ground clearance of around 16 inches. A Cybertruck could theoretically handle an extreme off-roading event like the Baja 1000, it is so great at going through the grime! As for towing, the tow rating for the Tesla Cybertruck tops out at 14,000 pounds in the Tri-Motor all-wheel-drive variant. The Single Motor and Dual Motor versions tow 7,500 and 10,000 pounds, respectively. Nothing to sneeze at for sure!

The Cybertruck isn’t just capable of carrying a bunch, it has some serious power to move fast too. The Cybertruck operates at the same performance level as a sports car, not just being able to pull a Ford uphill, but it could drag-race a Porsche, and win! The Cybertruck has the abilities of a truck and the performance of a sports car and that’s just amazing and another example of why it might be the best truck ever made. When you can pull a ton of cargo and outrace a sports car, you know you’ve done something right with your truck!

The interior aspects of the Cybertruck really shine as well. The head of Tesla, Elon Musk, has spoken often about Tesla’s efforts to achieve autonomous driving software that will eventually be safer and more, “Skilled,” than a human driver. Normally luxury cars are associated with this kind of self-driving tech, but for an extra fee, a person can have their Cybertruck come loaded with this impressive autonomous driving technology that only continues to get more and more advanced! Then there is another small touch that makes the interior extra impressive. After all, one thing to keep in mind with the Cybertruck is that as it will be very big that might make it hard to use a regular rearview mirror. However, this was planned for and the Cybertruck comes with a digital review mirror that is not so much a mirror as it is a high-tech screen that shows drivers a live feed of what’s behind them. It’s not just autonomous driving and high-tech mirrors that will make being in a Cybertruck a great experience, however. The Cybertruck will be loaded up with a 17-inch screen that will be able to play music, stream Netflix, serve as a wi-fi hotspot for phones, and will be able to keep riders quite entertained who are in a Cybertruck! The elegant frameless door is part of the standard equipment and should enable easy entry and exit.

Toyota's Revolutionary Solid State Battery

Toyota is working on next-generation solid-state batteries, but will they be a game-changer or fail to impress?

To start, what exactly is a solid-state battery? Well, a solid-state battery is a rechargeable battery in which the electrolyte is in the solid-state rather than the liquid or gaseous state. This means that they have a very high energy density, can be discharged and charged rapidly, and have no flammable components--a nice additional safety element. You see, generally, batteries contain two electrodes. There is an anode and a cathode separated by an electrolyte. When charging or discharging electrons are exchanged between these two electrodes that create the current flow AKA it powers everything. As the electrolyte conducts negative ions from the cathode to the anode, electricity is produced. The two electrodes are bound together by another material called a separator. The key difference to know is that with a solid-state battery, this liquid electrolyte is replaced by a solid material. These materials have high conductivity and don't evaporate in the same way that liquid electrolytes do. This makes solid-state batteries superior to traditional ones in a number of ways that ought to be examined.

There are four main areas where a solid-state battery could be better than a traditional one. They are safety, charge speed, range of travel, and energy density. As was mentioned, solid-state batteries do not have flammable electrolytes. The solid materials do not evaporate as they charge and discharge so overheating is a minimal risk. In other words, your engine won’t catch fire with a solid-state battery compared to a traditional one. Charge speed is another big deal as traditional batteries don’t exactly charge quickly. It can take hours whereas a solid-state battery can be charged up to an 80% charge in just fifteen minutes. Existing batteries only charge up to 50% in fifteen minutes if you’re lucky! Then we have range; solid-state batteries can be charged and discharged many times more than traditional batteries without much of any strain. This makes them fantastic as they maintain their range over a longer number of cycles than a traditional battery. Last, is the energy density. The energy density of a battery is the amount of energy it can store per unit weight. The higher the density, the more energy an electric car can store. Solid-state batteries have more energy density so they can store more energy and last longer, simple as that. With solid-state batteries being so great, why aren’t they used more? Well, it is still a young technology in terms of being currently applicable. However, Toyota is making some big strides and hopes to become a, “Tesla killer,” with their solid-state battery. Could such a thing be possible? The answer is a big, “Maybe?”

If Toyota’s solid-state battery they are working on is to be a game-changer it needs to accomplish certain things. The cost is currently prohibitive to use in electric vehicles where a car with a solid-state battery would cost far too much for almost any consumer to be interested in it. As this technology is still a lot of prototypes and testing it hasn’t been scaled up yet either. Durability is a big question too as if there isn’t much real-life testing being done with solid-state batteries it is hard to accurately gauge just how long they will actually last in real-life applications. Plus, even if a solid-state battery is powerful it needs a car with high-quality parts and elements to match--which again could raise prices to levels consumers will not like. Another big concern is recharging stations. Recharging stations need to be able to handle a much faster charge than traditional ion batteries. Charging stations with equipment that cannot handle the new technology may not be compatible with solid-state batteries and be useless to anyone with a car packing a solid-state battery. The driver would have a battery that can charge quickly, but not have anywhere to charge it if stations aren’t upgraded for this technology--which, not to sound repetitive, but that’s, AGAIN, a cost concern.

Clearly, there are still hurdles to overcome, with the emphasis on money being an extremely major one. After all, Toyota has been working on and exploring this technology since 2012 in the hopes of making it cost-efficient and reliable. It is a technology being whipped up from scratch and there is bound to be a lot of trial and error. There is some progress to show for it with it quite possible we could see solid-state batteries in the near future, but it also wouldn’t be surprising if they took a handful more years to be put into development. It is still impressive to see that with the possible problems researching solid-state batteries can bring that Toyota wants to explore it. Right now this technology is just not applicable to the current marketplace, but if challenges could be overcome then Toyota’s solid-state battery could be amazing.
